Course Description

Welcome to the University of Bath Global Health in Pharmacy short course where we will introduce you to key topics relevant to pharmacy professionals wherever they work. Pharmacists and pharmacy professionals are ubiquitous around the world and have a unique place at the forefront of care and in making and guiding decisions around medicines development, supply, and their rationional use. This programme aims to raise awareness about global health in how it is defined and applied in the field of Pharmacy. On completion of this short course you should be able to:

• Define global health and distinguish it from related concepts such as public health and international health.

• Describe the major determinants and challenges of global health, including health inequities, demographic changes, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and environmental influences.

• Interpret global health data and trends to identify variations in disease burden, mortality, and health outcomes across populations and regions.

• Explain the role of pharmacy professionals and pharmacy services in addressing global health priorities and improving health outcomes at local, national, and international levels.

• Recognise opportunities for pharmacy professionals to contribute to health equity, disease prevention, and health system strengthening within a global health context.
