Sports Pharmacy

Welcome to the University of Bath Sports Pharmacy short course where we will introduce you to key topics relevant to pharmacy teams working with athletes or sport, in particular clean sport and performance enhancing drugs. Pharmacists have a unique place in sport and exercise medicine, having many of the skills needed in sports pharmacy. This programme aims to raise awareness in how these skills might be effectively applied in this field and provide a starting point for further learning in Sports Pharmacy. On completion of this short course you should be able to:

• Define the role of sports pharmacists, and the athlete support team
• Describe the pharmacists role in clean sport and promotion of public health
• Identify the suitability of a medicine for an athlete, working within WADA rules for antidoping  and therapeutic use exemptions
• Reflect on your learning needs for this course and create an action plan for your next steps
