The What is Leadership? Course aims to provide you with a clear understanding of leadership in a modern context.  Combining theoretical foundations with practical applications to help you understand yourself as a leader, the course provides a balance between strategic thinking with hands-on experience, allowing you to apply what you learn on both immediate applications and long-term organisational change. 

This online course allows you to work at your own pace, whilst interacting with peers via an online discussion board. 

Learning Objectives

• Define what is leadership and distinguish leadership from management. 
• Evaluate the leadership styles of different leaders and assess their effectiveness, as well as consider their relevance in the modern context. 
• Develop an understanding of and practically apply leadership fundamentals 
• Understand the evolution of thinking and models of leadership, enabling you to make informed choices about your own approach to leading. 
• Explore seven potential transformative steps of leaders such that you can plan your evolution. 
• Understand the concept of 'Level 5 Leadership' and assess whether it is a relevant model for yourself. 
• Understand the current 'Crisis of Leadership' - what is it, why does it matter and what opportunities does it represent.

o Key academic literature and frameworks.
o Leadership – today.
